A lot of portraiture might look like this…

With some creamy creamy backgrounds, a camera straight across from your face, a big smile, and the hair swept out of your face.*

And there’s nothing wrong with that — it’s sweet! And in this photo, I am genuinely happy! It’s nice to take some shots like this in a session.

(*Don’t worry, I will make sure your hair isn’t in your face… unless that’s something that we’d like to lean into for a few shots!)

But I am drawn to capturing the real and the interesting.

This is where my unique skillset and style comes in to what I offer.

Where is the grit? The beauty in the resting face, or the texture in the face that is puzzled or bewildered?

Something specific, honest, subtle, expressive, aesthetic, and artful — that’s where my photography shines.

Capturing you in unique poses with complementary and interesting backgrounds + lighting

I’ll ask you to try a pose and give an emotion. I’ll move my camera around a lot, and, when we find some magic, lean into that moment with micro-changes (ie. my camera down a smidge, me asking you to crack a small smile).

Changing up the angles, finding you — the art within you — at specific emotional moments — at angles that may be unintuitive, but still feel right.

My photography is reflective, artful, & seeking to uncover your essence.

If you’re looking to co-create; where we find the location within the location, the lighting that hits right, and allow for pose experimentation, we’re going to create some really unique and textured portraiture.

If you have a very, very specific idea of what the shoot will produce, like “we HAVE to get shots in at this location and that location and that location” — even though you’re washed out by the harsh sunlight — I’m probably not a good fit for you.

My skillset — and you receiving awesome photos — emerges with those who are open to experimenting with poses and down for being lead by my discerning and artistic eye! :)
